Google is acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion; Android stays an open-source

This is great news! Google buys Motorola Mobility, the mobile division of Motorola for an estimated $ 12.5 billion.

Motorola was one of the first mobile phone manufacturers to use Android on their mobile phones and had some success in the U.S. market.

In a blog post of Google Co-Founder Larry Page, he states that Google has acquired Motorola not only because of its power in Android smartphones and devices, but also for being a “market leader in the home devices and video solutions business.”

The combination of Google and Motorola will not only supercharge Android, but will also enhance competition and offer consumers accelerating innovation, greater choice, and wonderful user experiences. I am confident that these great experiences will create huge value for shareholders.

But does it mean android will be exclusive to Motorola? No. Here’s what he said about android staying as an Open-Source:

This acquisition will not change our commitment to run Android as an open platform. Motorola will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. We will run Motorola as a separate business. Many hardware partners have contributed to Android’s success and we look forward to continuing to work with all of them to deliver outstanding user experiences.

With the acquisition, Google will be acquiring 17,000 patents and an additional 7,500 filed patent applications in the deal.

So the next Google Nexus will be from Motorola Mobility and goodbye HTC

Facebook Account Temporarily Unavailable

I have received this error a while ago, Facebook might be experiencing server overload or some unexpected errors. It should be back in a minute or two. All you can do now is wait patiently.

What to do? Nothing, might be a good time to do something else and if after sometime and you’re still getting Facebook Account Temporarily Unavailable, try using other browser or ask your friends if they can open their profile and if they do, try clearing your browsers cookies and cache.

Internet Explorer users: Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete… -> select only Cookies -> Delete

Mozilla Firefox users: Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy tab -> Show cookies -> Scroll down and look for mediafire cookies folder and delete it

Google Chrome users: Click on the Customize button -> Option -> Under the hood -> Clear browsing history -> Make sure Delete Cookies and other site data is checked -> Click Clear browsing data

Smart Bro Rocket Plug It was officially launched today at the price of P3,995 and it promise the speed of up to 12mbps and it runs on HSPA+.

This dongle will be available in the wireless smart centers nationwide. Remember that 4G is available only in major cities of the Philippines, so do not expect a 12Mpbs full blast on your download speed.

This is the list of Smart’s HSPA+ covered areas thanks to Yugatech.

Even though it is capable of up to 12mbps speed, there will be no unlimited packages for this dongle and will be per data package just like Smart’s Always On and P10 per 30 minutes.

So what’s the use of 12mbps if you’re limited to 180mb for P200? lolz…

Dragona Online Philippines Closed Beta

Closed beta phase of Dragona Online Philippines was first announced and scheduled last May. But it was delayed to the month of June and once again delayed to July, but until now there’s still no news about the CBT Phase of this game.

Prius Online Global / Philippines

Gpotato’s Prius Online recently opened it’s doors to most of the players outside NA. Although open beta started last june, IP restriction was implemented on most regions including philippines. A lot of gamers outside NA was disappointed ( including me ) when IP ban was implemented as gamers anticipated this game. Following this announcement comes in the July-content update, the update also includes new dungeons, quests, and difficulty will be adjusted. Five new dungeons already gone live, the rest will come later this month. Here’s the full announcement regarding the IP lift:

Today we are very happy to announce that we are able to drastically increase our coverage!

After an overwhelming amount of outrage from the community, the Developer of Prius has responded to our pleas. They have given us permission to lift the IP Block on a global scale! Of course regions that already have their own versions, or their own versions in development will still be excluded, but this will drastically increase the number of countries that can access Prius through Gpotato.At this point it is now easier to list the countries that we will not be able to provide coverage to, these include:

Russia (soon to be receiving their own version of Prius)
Japan (already has a native version)
Taiwan (already has a native version)
China
Thailand (already has a native version)

The new IP Block will go into effect today! We will be sending out a more detailed Email to everyone regarding this great news over the weekend.

Internet Explorer 9 beta download

Microsoft released it’s beta of Internet Explorer 9 today, it will be available for Vista and Windows 7. The new version has a new look and it claims that it is compliant with HTML5, CSS3 and SVG2 standards and with full hardware acceleration. Internet Explorer 9 Beta has a lot of new features like new design (top tab just like chrome), a unified search and URL bar (another one from chrome), an enlarged back button (from FF),New Tab window with thumbnails that shows your most commonly-visited sites (similar to chrome).

But there’s something new that you wont find in other browser is the unique UI enhancements, new notification system (wherein a slim notificationslide up from the bottom of the screen if there’s an error or something instead of a pop-up), the unique feature of Internet Explorer 9 would be the ability to PIN a web page to your Windows taskbar. *COOL*, and some performance features.

The final version of Internet Explorer 9 would be available later this year or early 2011, no words at all as of this time.

The question is, will Internet Explorer 9 beta be as good as chrome or firefox or will it surpase it in terms of reliability and performance? we’ll see…

Who wouldn’t want an android phone?

Well, everyone wants new phone but a lot of us can’t afford a new model phone, just like me. It’s been a year since I planned and started saving money for a new phone but until now, I haven’t got the chance to bury (LOLz) my 5 years old pal, the N6630. But right now, Jehzeel Laurente of Jehzlau-Concept.com is giving away an android phone, the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica.

Well, why I deserve the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica? because my 6630 is dying, casing has no lock anymore(back), color is cracking, MMC died on me last year(haha..), fully bloated battery… Another reason why I deserve this android phone is that, it can help me to update this blog more often and since Android is an Open source, it might as well help me test my programming abilities..lolz… Too bad I don’t have a picture of my phone since I don’t have a Digicam. Oh well, good luck to all even though I don’t stand a chance on this one.

30,000 quit Facebook in protest

Two Toronto residents have launched a campaign to urge Facebook users to disable their accounts. The Quit Facebook Day site claims more than 30,000 quit Facebook in protest to stop using the social media site.
Almost all of you used Facebook, and some might consider odd or out of the loop, if you dont have an account on Facebook. Nevertheless, Facebook’s recent actions led to the creation of Quit Facebook Day.Facebook Quit Day was created by two Toronto: Joseph Dee, a Web technologist, and Matthew Milan, a partner at Normative Design. According to PC World, Milan tweeted: “I personally did not expect that a large number of days out Facebook. But there is something that should not be too viral to succeed.”

On the site says that they care and are concerned about the future of the World Wide Web, and Facebok will not have a positive impact on the future of the Internet “, so we’re leaving.”

Currently, there are almost 33,759 users are steadfast in leaving facebook, but it is uncertain if they will actually deactivate or have deactivated their accounts.

Even though hayley williams twitpic twitter was hack, The person should have access to the topless naked picture of Hayley Williams and her Twitter account.

If you are a webmaster or runs a self hosted blog, it is required to have a FTP client to upload your files into your webhost like themes, etc. There are FTP clients out there, commercial or open source, you name it.
